Chicago police were investigating the shooting death of a 42-year-old man who was found on a street in the Avondale neighborhood Sunday.

The man, whose identity was being held pending notification of his family, was pronounced dead at 11:15 a.m. in the Stein Institute, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Witnesses said they heard several gunshots about 8 a.m. in the 3000 block of North Sacramento Avenue, but they did not see the man’s assailants, Officer Amina Greer said.

A passerby discovered the man’s body and called police, Greer said. No suspects were in custody Sunday night.
