An elderly driver will not face charges in the death of an 84-year-old Burbank woman, who was fatally struck Sunday night as she walked across an Alsip street, police said Tuesday.
Stella Stepien was hit while crossing the 5400 block of 127th Street near Illinois Highway 83. She was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn about two hours after the 7:30 p.m. accident, police said.
The 85-year-old driver said he didn’t see Stepien crossing the road, police said.
Stepien, a retired postal employee, was dropped off in Alsip after a day trip to a riverboat casino. She was crossing the street to use a pay phone to call for a cab ride home when she was struck.
