The Township High School District 214 school board and teachers have reached a tentative agreement on a two-year contract, officials announced Tuesday.

The agreement calls for raises of 4.25 percent in the 2007-08 school year and a 3.75 percent increase the next year for about 850 teachers in the Education Association.

“It’s a win … for students, teachers and taxpayers,” said Supt. David Schuler, adding that the agreement also includes provisions for job sharing and professional development.

Both sides said recent changes in Illinois Teachers Retirement System rules for qualified teachers nearing retirement effectively reduced the increases to about 3 percent annually.

At least $750,000 will be available each year for tuition reimbursement and bonuses. Arlington Heights-based District 214 salaries range from $44,436 to $105,813 for a teacher with a master’s degree and additional credits.

Teachers are expected to vote on the agreement Wednesday. If approved, the contract will go to the board Thursday.
