*SOCCER: Former Fire general manager Peter Wilt and a group of local investors said Tuesday they would bring a women’s professional franchise to Chicago in 2009. The team will take part in a new league, which debuts in the spring of 2009. At least seven cities will be involved in the league. The Chicago franchise, yet to be named, will play its home games at Toyota Park.
*OLYMPICS: Bronze medalist Naman Keita of France had “abnormal” results on an anti-doping test during the track and field world championships, officials said Tuesday. “We are not at the point of a positive result,” an official from the anti-doping department of the sport’s world governing body told the Associated Press. Keita is a 400-meter hurdler.
*COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Fired former Florida A&M coach Mike Gillespie pleaded no contest to charges of stalking a former girlfriend and was sentenced to a year of probation. … Stuard Baldonado, one of five Duquesne players wounded in an on-campus shooting Sept. 17, was suspended indefinitely from the team after his weekend arrest on a drug-conspiracy charge.
*NBA: Lakers owner Jerry Buss pleaded guilty to misdemeanor drunken driving. He was fined $1,900 and sentened to five years’ probation.
