Bail was set Friday at $750,000 in the case of a man charged with bludgeoning his father to death with a metal pipe and then attempting to kill himself in their Belmont Cragin home.
Prosecutors said Wayne Salazar, 57, of the 4900 block of West Drummond Place argued with his father, Clifford, 80, Tuesday over how much financial support the father ought to have been providing Salazar’s sister.
Prosecutors said Salazar admitted striking his father with the pipe in the neck, the left temple and the head during the argument, and then going to the bathroom to wash the blood off the pipe and his feet.
Salazar then went into his bedroom, took pills and cut his wrists, prosecutors said.
Salazar was being treated for a drug overdose in the intensive care unit at Resurrection Medical Center on Friday, Chicago Police Officer Carlos Delgado said. He is expected to appear in court Oct. 12.
