Dr. Raimonds J. Gailtis, of Glenview, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, beloved husband of Biruta for 62 years; loving father of Sandra Gailtis-Connors and Raymond P. Gailtis; loving grandfather of Dane, Marissa and Peter Gailtis; dear brother of Dzidra Apine of Latvia.
Dr. Gailtis was born and raised in Latvia.
He escaped the war to relocate in Germany in 1945 where he completed his medical degree and met his wife, Biruta.
He emigrated to the United States in 1955, first to New York then to Chicago.
For over 50 years, his life was dedicated to the practice of medicine.
He served as captain in the US Army from 1957 to 1959 and was a professor at the University of Illinois.
Visitation Sunday, 2 until time of funeral service 4 p.m. at theN.H. Scott & Hanekamp Funeral Home, 1240 Waukegan Rd., Glenview (1 blk S. of Lake Ave. on W. Side). Interment private Monday, Oct. 8.
