A Brooklyn middle school student has died after contracting an infection caused by an antibiotic-resistant strain of bacteria, New York City’s Health Department said Thursday.
A source familiar with the case identified the student as a 12-year-old boy. The health agency said methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, commonly known as MRSA, was the “probable cause” of death.
Health officials said they have “no reason to believe that other children or school employees are at increased risk.”
