The death of a Des Plaines man found hanging by a rope from the chimney of his house was ruled an accident, authorities said Tuesday.
Vincanzo Buttabauro, 83, was found by his wife Monday, hanging from the roof of the family’s home in the 400 block of Ardmore Street, said Des Plaines Police Chief James Prandini.
Buttabauro’s wife said her husband used a rope tied to the chimney as a safety harness when doing work on the roof, Prandini said. The accident happened about 12:15 p.m., authorities said.
“It was a tragedy,” Prandini said.
