Green Trails Apartments in Lisle is a good place to see the seasons change. That’s due, in part, to the nearly floor-to-ceiling windows in the community’s 440 apartments.
Longevity also can be credited. The community was constructed in the late 1980s, so the trees have grown to maturity — yellow and orange maturity at this time of year.
The living room of the two-bedroom, one-bath unit we toured gave us a splendid view. The apartment is on the second floor of one of the community’s 20 buildings. The three-story walk-ups have exteriors of red brick and beige vinyl siding.
The community’s name is appropriate given its location. A block from the complex, a blacktop trail connects to miles of others that wind through the area and lead to parks, a strip mall and Benedictine University.
In addition to biking or walking, Green Trails is home to many other activities. It has a newly renovated fitness center, a hot tub open year-round, an outdoor swimming pool and a clubhouse with a Great Room including a large-screen television, comfortable furniture and a kitchen. For those who would rather stay home, the apartments also come with free basic cable.
The front door of the unit we visited opens into a beige-carpeted foyer with a double coat closet. The 12-by-16-foot living room was to the left. Those nearly floor-to-ceiling windows on one wall fill this space with natural light as they overlook a large courtyard.
A French door tucked in a corner next to the window leads outside to a large balcony with a cream-colored wood railing and another view of the lawn.
The dining room and kitchen are to the right of the front door. The 9 1/2-by-8-foot dining room is marked by a brass chandelier over a space for a table and four chairs.
A breakfast bar with a cream-colored Formica counter sets off the 8-by-7-foot kitchen. Beige vinyl tile flooring matches cabinets trimmed in wood and almond-colored appliances including an oven, dishwasher, refrigerator and built-in microwave.
A long hallway between the kitchen and living room leads to the bedrooms, passing the bath.
Like the kitchen, it has a beige vinyl tile floor, a wood-trimmed beige vanity, a large mirror and a white tub/shower. A closet just outside the bathroom contains a stacked washer and dryer.
The bathroom also has two doors. One connects to the hallway. The other leads into the 11-by-16-foot master bedroom, which features a large window with a courtyard view. A great way to spend a lazy morning would be to lie on the bed and gaze out the window. This bedroom also has a large walk-in closet. There’s more storage in a locker behind a door in the common hallway outside the apartment.
The smaller of the bedrooms is next. It measures 10 by 10 1/2 feet and includes a nearly floor-to-ceiling window that overlooks the balcony and trees. This bedroom has a double closet.
This complex is close to the North-South Tollway and a Metra station in Lisle.
