Michelle Tourtillott made sure she didn’t ice herself in No. 11 Maine South’s 58-44 non-conference victory Wednesday at Prospect .

Despite popping a finger in the first quarter and spending time on the bench because of foul trouble, the senior tossed in 14 points in a game that became more important after the two teams were placed in the same sectional.

After a 27-27 halftime tie, Tourtillott scored seven points of a 16-6 Hawk third-quarter advantage that put South (7-2) in control. She played after an ultimatum from coach Mark Smith.

“The ball jammed my finger at the start of the game,” said Tourtillott, her right hand under a bag of ice. “He said if I had ice on it, I’d stay on the bench. I took it off. It throbbed a bit, but I wanted to play.”

Prospect (7-2) took advantage when Tourtillout went to the bench with 4:49 left in the half. The Knights pressed their way to 14-4 run for the halftime tie.

Maine South double-teamed Prospect’s leading scorer Megan Murray and forced her into a perimeter game. The 5-foot-11-inch senior forward was limited to 10 points, seven below her season average.
