Greece experienced its first fatal earthquake in nine years as the southwestern part of the country was hit by a quake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.5. At least two people were killed and more than 100 were injured.

Dozens of homes were leveled.

Sunday’s quake struck at 3:25 p.m. near Patras, about 120 miles west of Athens in the northwestern Peloponnese, the Athens Geodynamic Institute said.

Greece is one of the world’s most earthquake-prone countries.
