If you build it, will they come? It worked like a charm once in Iowa, where the baseball park built for “Field of Dreams” remains a steady tourist attraction nearly 20 years after the film’s release.
Now, the state’s nascent winemaking industry wants to use the same formula to draw visitors. With more than 70 wineries, up from just 18 in 2002, growth of a strong tourism trade is every bit as important as growing grapes. The Iowa Wine Trail, which shares the same eastern Iowa countryside as the ball field, is a big part of the effort.
