Being a fan sometimes means dressing in unusual ways.
But a skin-tight orange suit, a blue Speedo and blue sunglasses can attract attention.
“I’m a true Illinois fan, and I look good in a Speedo,” said Nathan Bertrand (the name as published has been corrected here and in subsequent references in this text), an Illinois junior majoring in political science and history who donned Illini colors and an outfit that drew some national attention from WBBM-Ch. 2 on Saturday during the Illini’s loss to Purdue in the Big Ten tournament semifinals.
Bertrand, of Rochester, Ill., was accompanied by his father Tom, who wore nothing more extreme than an orange sweater.
“My dad says, ‘This is what I get for $25,000 a year,'” Nathan said.
The cameras may not have seen the last of the outfit.
“I’ve worn it for Illinois football games too,” he said.
