Her Northwestern teammates could see Hilary Bowen dressed in street clothes Sunday at Lakeside Field. Bowen had dumped her crutches two days earlier, but the leading goal scorer in Division I women’s lacrosse was limping so severely it was apparent the left knee ligament she had torn a week earlier would sideline her for weeks, if not the rest of the season. Yet the Wildcats (13-0) seemed almost in denial about Bowen’s absence for the first 10 minutes against No. 17 Penn State (6-7). It seemed they were waiting for her to take the field, falling behind 3-0 before rolling to a 17-6 victory.
