Athletics 5, Rays 2: Jason Giambi hit the first homer of his second stint with Oakland and Nomar Garciaparra hit a three-run double as the A’s snapped a five-game skid and won their first day game in seven tries.
Red Sox 16, Yankees 11: Robinson Cano homered twice and drove in five for the Yankees. Twelve pitchers threw 385 pitches in a 4-hour-21-minute game.
Tigers 9, Royals 1: Zach Miner and four relievers, including Joel Zumaya in his ’09 debut, combined on a six-hitter. Curtis Granderson hit his sixth homer and Gerald Laird was 3-for-4 with a homer for Detroit.
Rangers 6, Orioles 5: Texas, which leads the majors in home runs with 35, hit four, two by Ian Kinsler, who raised his average to .384 with seven HRs. Mark Hendrickson surrendered all four in the first three innings.
Twins 7, Indians 1: Kevin Slowey moved to 3-0 with eight solid innings and Minnesota pounded out 11 hits, including a Jason Kubel homer, in five innings off Carl Pavano (0-3). Kubel hit two HRs and also doubled.
White Sox 10, Blue Jays 2: One night after a 14-0 loss, Alexei Ramirez hit a grand slam, the fifth of his career, making him the second fastest to five (152 games), and drove in five, and the Sox pounded out 13 hits.
Mariners at Angels: Anthony Ortega made his major-league debut, the eighth pitcher to start for the Angels this season — one more than last year.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Braves 10, Reds 2: Yunel Escobar, who was hit by a pitch Friday, drove in two with a double and a single in the first two innings against Bronson Arroyo and was a triple short of the cycle with a career-high four RBIs.
Mets 8, Nationals 2: New York scored four unearned runs off Daniel Cabrera to bolster Mike Pelphrey, who got 14 consecutive outs on grounders before Elijah Dukes’ triple chased him with two outs in the sixth.
Cardinals 8, Cubs 3: Albert Pujols hit his second grand slam of the year and the eighth of his career and passed 1,000 RBIs to send the Cards to their ninth straight home win. He’s hitting .348 with 25 RBIs.
Phillies 6, Marlins 4: Florida’s bullpen blew a lead in the ninth again. Then Chase Utley and Jayson Werth contributed run-scoring singles off Logan Kensing in the 10th to deal the Marlins their fifth straight loss.
Dodgers 6, Rockies 5: L.A. scored four in the first, two in the fourth with Russell Martin driving in four. James McDonald earned his first big-league victory.
Brewers 9, Astros 8: Ryan Braun singled in Corey Hart in the 11th after Bill Hall’s error in the 9th had allowed the tying run to score. Prince Fielder’s two-run blast in the top of the ninth put Milwaukee up one.
Giants at Diamondbacks: Tim Lincecum dominated the D’backs for the second time in a week in a 5-1 Giants’ win (16 innings, one run, 25 strikeouts, one walk).
Pirates at Padres: Brian Giles singled in the winning run for the Padres with two outs in the 11th on Saturday in a 4-3 victory that ended a three-game skid.
