Gov. Pat Quinn said today he was embarrassed by revelations that his campaign has been trying to set up fundraisers with major interest groups even as he lobbies for tougher government ethics in the waning days of the spring legislative session.

Quinn acknowledged he knew about some of the calls his campaign director made to interest groups, describing them as follow-up conversations with longtime supporters who had indicated earlier this year that they would make political donations.

But he said he was unaware that other interest groups were also being contacted and offered “face-time” with the governor in return for donations.

Quinn said that was a mistake by his campaign which he has ended.
