In the middle of a cleaning session, you run out of kitchen and bathroom supplies. Why run to the store when you can use “green” items in your pantry that will do just as good a job, if not better– according to Linda Cobb, the self-declared Queen of Clean in her book “Talking Dirty With the Queen of Clean.”
Baking soda is ideal for when you need a soft-scrubbing cleanser, Cobb writes. It also works for cleaning up heel marks on hard floors (use a damp cloth with a little baking soda) and for removing mineral deposits off windows (dip a soft wet cloth in baking soda and rub gently).
White vinegar can be used to remove mineral deposits and soap scum from showers and tubs (warm the vinegar, then put in a spray bottle) or to clean windows (mix 1/4 cup white vinegar with 1 quart of water) and mirrors (mix equal parts vinegar and water).
Lemon juice, she writes, is perfect for shining and buffing brass or copper. When you’re done with the lemon rind, throw it in your garbage disposal to freshen it up.
