Mrs. Evelyn Josephine Smith,nee Creel, who made her transition on Thursday morning, Aug. 6, 2009, was born to the late Mr. Albert Creel and Mrs. Estelle Creel Grimillion on Feb. 12, 1920, in Beckley, W. Virginia.
She attended Douglas Elementary School and graduated from WendellPhillips High School in 1937.
During World War II, Evelyn served her country doing clerical work for the US government, where she met her beloved “Smitty”, the late Henry Smith.
Married over 50 years, Henry Smith preceded Evelyn in death in 1995.
Evelyn Josephine Smith leaves to cherish her memory one daughterJacqueline (Edward) Yamoah; three sons Milton (Willa-Joy), Stephen, and Kenneth (Patricia) Smith all of Chicago; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Wake on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009 from 4 to 7 p.m. Visitation 11 a.m. until time of service 12 noon, Thursday, atDoty NashFuneral Home, 8620 S. Stony Island Ave., Chicago.
Interment Oak Woods Cemetery, 1035 E. 67th St., Chicago.
