It’s time for a seasonal survey by the fashion police (me) to point out the “dos” and “don’ts” of dressing for fall.

Sometimes the difference between a good look and a fashion failure is so simple, so basic, so common sense. In other words, it’s really not that hard to snatch a lousy look from the don’t pile and make it a do.

Take a lesson from the people on this page who get it right — or go so very off-the-charts wrong. You don’t need a lot of money or a new wardrobe. In fact, all the “do” men and women on this page are wearing clothing they’ve had for a while, in some cases years. They’re just wearing it well by putting a little thought into it.
