Free agent and former White Sox right-hander Luis Vizcaino has been suspended by Major League Baseball for testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance.

Vizcaino received a 50-game ban for testing positive for metabolites of Stanozolol under the minor league drug program. The commissioner’s office announced the suspension Wednesday. The punishment starts when Vizcaino signs with a major league organization.

The Sox aquired Vizcaino from the Brewers in a trade for outfielder Carlos Lee. A year later, the Sox traded Vizcaino to the Yankees for Javier Vasquez.
