A 28-year-old Mississippi man has been charged with raping a woman at the Massachusetts home of new Chicago Bears safety Brandon Meriweather this summer.

According to a report in the Sun Chronicle in Attleboro, Mass.,

James Roberts of Biloxi, Miss., has pleaded innocent to a charge that he raped a woman at Meriweather’s residence on Payson Road in Foxboro, Mass., on July 13.

Meriweather has not been charged with a crime.

Per the report, a Sept. 20 pre-trial conference is scheduled. Foxboro police, with the assistance of state police, investigated the attack.

“There has been no allegation against anyone but Roberts,” a spokesman for the Norfolk County District Attorney told the Sun Chronicle.

Meriweather was questioned by police in Orlando, Fla., in March about a shooting that injured two men outside a bar. The incident followed an altercation, according to police. Meriweather was not charged.

Meriweather was involved in a gun fight in 2006 when he played at Miami. A teammate was shot. Police deemed Meriweather legally used his firearm and he was not charged in that incident.
