International safety experts, giving Boeing Co. a potential marketing boost, cleared the company’s latest 747 model to operate under the same air-traffic control rules and in-flight spacing restrictions as earlier jumbo jets.
Announced by Boeing on Tuesday, the decision resolves concerns the Chicago company’s new 747-8 jetliner, larger and heavier than previous versions, could generate substantially greater wake turbulence than the rest of its venerable family of jumbo jets.
