I was astonished to read in the Tribune that Chicago Inspector General Joseph Ferguson suggested taxing health club memberships as one way to help eliminate Chicago’s budget deficit.

I wonder if he has also considered a tax on purchases of fruit, vegetables, and preventative medicine, as well as imposing fines on people who wear seat belts or people who don’t smoke or drink.
