A Chicago police officer was shot in the leg Thursday night in the Altgeld Gardens neighborhood on the Far South Side, according to preliminary reports.

A Chicago Fire Department ambulance was sent to the scene near the 13200 block of South Langley Avenue following the shooting report shortly after 9:15 p.m., a department spokesman said.

The Calumet District officer, with about two years on the force, was shot twice in the leg and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with non-life-threatening wounds, police said.

As of about 10 p.m. police were questioning at least one person, but it was not immediately known if that person was a witness or someone believed to be involved in the shooting.
