A woman who tried to put out a grease fire with water was critically burned this evening in the South Shore neighborhood on the city’s South Side.
Shortly after 6 p.m., firefighters responded to a building located at 7337 S. South Shore Dr. and found the woman with second-degree burns covering 10 percent of her body, according to fire media information.
The person was taken in critical condition to Bernard Mitchell Hospital, officials said.
The 41-year-old woman had a grease fire in her apartment that she tried to put out using water, which caused the flames to flashover and burn her abdomen and thighs, fire media said.
