Angels’ Aybar officially signs extension

The Los Angeles Angels officially signed shortstop Erick Aybar to a four-year, $35 million contract extension on Thursday.

Aybar will receive a $1 million signing bonus, then salaries of $8.5 million each of the next four seasons starting in 2013. He signed a one-year, $5,075,000 deal before the 2012 season.

Aybar won a Gold Glove last season, when he hit .279 with 10 home runs.

The Angels had been negotiating with Aybar’s agents since mid-December.

Although Aybar has said the negotiation were not a distraction, he hit just .190 through the first 12 games.
