FUTURES HIGHER, CITIGROUP RESULTS ON TAP
Index futures were higher, tracking European shares higher
on hopes Spain would soon request a bailout. S&P; 500 futures
rose 6.7 points and were above fair value, a formula that
evaluates pricing by taking into account interest rates,
dividends and time to expiration on the contract. Dow Jones
industrial average futures added 46 points and Nasdaq 100
futures rose 17 points.
** SPRINT NEXTEL CORP, Friday close $5.73, up 8.2 pct
premarket.
** CLEARWIRE CORP, Friday close $2.32, up 11 pct
premarket.
Japanese mobile operator Softbank Corp said it will
buy up to 70 percent in the third-largest U.S. carrier, for
about $20.1 billion – the most a Japanese firm has spent on an
overseas acquisition.
** GOOGLE INC, Friday close $744.75
The company’s market capitalization recently pulled even
with Microsoft Corp for the first time, fueled by good
news about Google’s online-ad business and missteps from its top

** MICROSOFT CORP, Friday close $29.20, up 0.17 pct
post-market.
The software maker said on Monday that Xbox Music, a digital
music service to vie with Apple Inc’s iTunes and
Amazon.com Inc’s Cloud Player, will be available for
its Xbox game consoles on Tuesday.
** APPLE INC, Friday close $629.71, up 0.64 pct
premarket.
The technology giant will host an event on Oct. 23 where it
is expected to unveil a smaller iPad that will take on the less
expensive devices offered by Amazon.com Inc and Google
Inc, a source familiar with the matter said on Friday.
** CITIGROUP INC, Friday close $34.75, up 0.43 pct
premarket.
The bank will report its quarterly numbers before markets
open on Monday.
** GANNETT CO INC, Friday close $17.90
For the publisher it has been eight months since Chief
Executive Gracia Martore unveiled her plan to get the company
back on track, and so far the course is steady. The publisher
reports its third-quarter results before markets open on Monday.
** VISA INC, Friday close $ 139.12
** MASTERCARD INC, Friday close $ 473
Visa, MasterCard and a group of retailers plan to ask a
judge this week to approve a landmark settlement of a lawsuit
over credit card fees, setting the stage for a battle with
Wal-Mart Stores Inc and hundreds of other merchants who
say it is a bad deal.
** NEW ORIENTAL EDUCATION & TECHNOLOGY GROUP INC,
Friday close $ 17.14, up 10.2 pct.
Oppenheimer & Co raised rating on the private education
provider’s stock to “outperform” from “perform.”
** AMAZON.COM INC, Friday close $242.36, up 1 pct
premarket.
The world’s largest Internet retailer, is in advanced talks
to buy the mobile chip business of Texas Instruments,
Israeli financial newspaper Calcalist reported on Monday.
** CONSOL ENERGY INC, Friday close $15.14, down 2.7
pct premarket
The coal miner is expected to report a net loss for the
third quarter due to idling of its mines.
