Oct 15 (Reuters) – South Dakota executed convicted killer

Eric Robert on Monday night by lethal injection for the April

2011 killing of a guard during a failed escape attempt at the

state prison in Sioux Falls, a corrections department spokesman

said.

Robert, 50, was pronounced dead at 10:24 p.m. Central Time,

the department said.

The execution was South Dakota’s first since 2007 and only

the third since 1913. It was the 32nd execution in the United

States this year, according to the Death Penalty Information

Center.
