New Mexico 70, George Mason 69: Kendall Williams and Tony Snell hit 3-pointers in the final 11 seconds as the Lobos pulled off an improbable comeback to beat the Patriots and advance to the championship game of the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam.
Snell scored a career-high 27 points – including the game-winning 3-pointer with 1.2 seconds left – to lead New Mexico (3-0), which will face the Connecticut-Quinnipiac winner in the championship game on Monday.
Sherrod Wright scored a 22 points for George Mason (2-2), including a four-point play with 53 seconds left that put the Patriots ahead 67-62. He then made a pair of free throws with 17 seconds left.
Williams, who scored 14 points, pulled up for a long 3-pointer on the next trip down and stole an inbounds pass that led to Snell’s game-winner from the left wing.
Johnny Williams added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Patriots. Freshman reserve Patrick Holloway scored eight of his 11 points in the second half to help George Mason go up by as many as eight points before New Mexico’s comeback.
