The average interest rate on the benchmark 30-year, fixed-rate mortgage ticked up this week to 3.37 percent, Freddie Mac reported Thursday.
Last week, the average rate was 3.32 percent and during the same week a year ago, it was 3.91 percent. The average interest rate has been below 3.5 percent since Sept. 20.
Meanwhile, the average rate on a 15-year, fixed-rate mortgage continued to trend downward, to 2.65 percent this week from 2.66 percent last week and 3.21 percent a year ago. That rate has been below 3 percent since May 24.
“Mortgage rates were mixed this week following data reports on stable inflation and a thriving home construction market,” said Freddie Mac chief economist Frank Nothaft in a news release.
