Southern 53, Texas A&M; 51: Malcolm Miller hit the go-ahead free throws with five seconds left and finished with 17 points as the visiting Jaguars stunned the Aggies.
Miller scored the final seven points for Southern, knotting it at 49-49 with a 3-pointer at the 2:39 mark and tying it again on a pair of free throws with 40 seconds left. Javan Mitchell added 11 points and six rebounds for the Jaguars (5-6), who have won four of five.
Elston Turner and J’Mychal Reese scored 14 points apiece for Texas A&M; (8-3), which dropped to 5-1 at home.
Southern went scoreless over a 5:11 stretch late in the second half as the Aggies grabbed a 49-44 lead.
Texas A&M; endured its own drought of nearly four minutes as the Jaguars crept back into the game. Miller’s 3-pointer tied it before Reese’s jumper gave the Aggies the lead, 51-49 with 2:11 to play.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Texas A&M;, which entered the game shooting 40.2 percent from beyond the arc, went 4-of-13 (30.8 percent) from 3-point range against the Jaguars. … The Aggies have held their last four opponents to 54 points or less. … Southern leading scorer Derick Beltran was held to three points on 1-for-6 shooting.
