Boston Bruins center Patrice Bergeron signed an eight-year, $52 million extension with the team on Friday.

The new deal will keep Bergeron in Boston through the 2021-22 season and will take up about $6.5 million of salary cap space per year.

Bergeron, 27, had 10 goals and 22 assists in 42 games and played a key role in helping the Bruins reach the Stanley Cup finals. He even played Game 6 of the series with a broken rib, torn cartilage, a separated shoulder and a small hole in his lung.
