Torrential rain, powerful winds and flash floods have pounded the Chicago area, creating flight and traffic delays, street flooding and power outages. One death has been reported. A 25-year-old maintenance worker was killed when a flash flood sent rainwater pouring into the sewer he was working in on the Northwest Side, authorities said. The National Weather Service estimated rain fell at a rate of 1.5 to 2 inches per hour.
