The Chicago Fire cleared two roster spots Monday by waiving goalkeeper Paolo Tornaghi and announcing they will not pick up the option on midfielder Egidio Arevalo Rios.

Tornaghi saw little action behind starter Sean Johnson. Signed March 8, 2012, he appeared in just nine matches and compileld a 3-4-2 record with one shutout.

Rios also appeared in nine matches — all as a starter — for the Fire after signing with the team last Aug. 14.

The MLS waiver draft is set for later Monday.
