Recap: Stanford 76, Tennessee 70
No. 5 Stanford 76, No. 3 Tennessee 70: Chiney Ogwumike was unstoppable in scoring 32 points and grabbing 20 rebounds as the Cardinal defeating the visiting Lady Volunteers.
Ogwumike was 15-of-25 from the field and produced a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds in the first half alone for the Cardinal (10-1), who beat the Lady Vols for the fourth straight time at home. Lili Thompson notched 14 points and hit three 3-pointers and Taylor Greenfield had 11 points.
Ariel Massengale led the Lady Vols (10-1) with 17 points while Meighan Simmons added 15 points and six rebounds. Bashaara Graves supplied 14 points and five boards and Isabelle Harrison notched a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
The Lady Vols jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but Ogwumike scored eight points in a 13-0 run as the Cardinal took a 13-4 lead, one that would grow to 11 points on two occasions. Tennessee used a 9-2 run to get to within five in the closing seconds, but Greenfield hit a 3-pointer to send Stanford into the locker room with a 37-29 lead.
Tennessee held Ogwumike scoreless for the first five minutes of the second half, but couldn’t get any closer than four points prior to the first television timeout. The Cardinal soon went back up by 12 and the lead remained around 10 points until the Lady Vols made it 70-68 with 1:05 left before a three-point play by Amber Orrange and two free throws from Mikaela Ruef iced it.
