As the seasons change so do the activities to enjoy. Each time of year has special events and favorite traditions.
When the leaves turn and begin to gather on the ground, thoughts of fall fun begin to emerge. There is no shortage of festivals in this season.
On Sept. 27 the Northbrook Autumnfest brings out the best of the season. Many towns offer Halloween-themed outings too. Want to try something a bit out of the ordinary? On Oct. 25 Winnetka Halloween Party on Ice features everyone dressing up in their costumes and gliding around the Winnetka Ice Arena.
Kicking things off for the holiday season, The Grove Arts & Crafts Fair at The Grove National Historic Landmark in Glenview runs two consecutive weekends Nov. 6-9 and Nov. 13-16.
Most towns host a lighting of the tree or menorah along with traditional activities. Winter is the perfect time to check out a new activity. In January, Glencoe, Winnetka, Northbrook and Highland Park all host winter carnivals or festivals.
When the ground begins to thaw and thoughts turn to spring, new options begin to emerge. From bunny hops to breakfast with the bunny, Easter often marks the sweep into spring activities.
In May, Evanston hosts its annual Children’s Day. The day is devoted to celebrating childhood with food, face painting and games.
Also in May, Skokie has its Festival of Cultures. The event celebrates diversity in music, dance, food, crafts and games from cultures throughout the world.
Summertime bursts onto the scene with a slew of arts festivals featuring a broad range of talents.
Summer is in full swing once the calendar hits July 4. Most towns hold festivities to celebrate Independence Day. Glenview has a bike parade, Winnetka hosts a Fourth Fest and Evanston caps the night off with fireworks.
