Typical temperatures for early December are expected to keep a seasonable chill in the Chicago area through the middle of this week with temperatures fluctuating through the 30s and lower 40s. No major precipitation is expected, with the exception of a potentially icy mix late Sunday night into Monday morning. A shift in the jet stream will allow a flood of milder air to spread east across much of the U.S., sending the mercury into the lower and mid-50s by the weekend, a level nearly 20 degrees above normal.
Typhoon lashing the Philippines Typhoon Hagupit made its initial landfall in the Philippines early Saturday (Chicago time) with 130 mph winds. The storm is expected to weaken as it slowly treks west through the islands passing south of Manila on Monday. The storm’s slow movement combined with torrential rains should produce severe flooding.
