A man died Monday evening after he was struck by a CTA bus on the South Side, police said.

The accident happened near 43rd and Halsted streets at 9:06 p.m., authorities said.

According to preliminary information, a 62-year-old pedestrian was struck by a northbound Halsted Street bus in the Canaryville neighborhood, police said.

The man was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, police said. He was identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office as Erroll Ellison, of the 4200 block of Princeton Avenue in Chicago.

CTA officials could not be immediately reached for comment.
