College of Lake County, Grayslake

Smoking presentation: Patrick Reynolds, executive director of the Foundation for a Smokefree America, will give two free presentations at noon and 7 p.m. Tuesday at the College of Lake County, 19351 W. Washington St. in Grayslake. Reynolds watched his father, R.J. Reynolds Jr., his oldest brother R.J. Reynolds III, and other members of his family die from cigarette-induced emphysema and lung cancer. Concerned about the mounting health evidence, he began speaking out against the industry his family helped build. He founded the nonprofit Foundation for a Smokefree America in 1989 to motivate youth to stay tobacco free and empower smokers to quit. On Sept. 19, 2015, the White House and President Barack Obama presented Reynolds with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Reynolds’ talks were a key element of the implementation of a new or strengthened tobacco ban on corporate and university campuses. The presentations, “Tobacco Wars! The Battle for a Smokefree Society,” are designed to educate and inspire smokers to quit. For more details, call 847-543-2280.

Performance: VoicePlay will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre in the James Lumber Center for Performing Arts, CLC. The group recreates the orchestrated sound of an entire musical production with nothing but the human voice. As seen on Season 4 of NBC’s “The Sing-Off,” this five-man a cappella group from Orlando stops by as part of their Midwestern tour. VoicePlay performs regularly at Disney World and Royal Caribbean cruise ships. Tickets are $23, or $8 for students. For more details, call 847-543-2300.
