Notre Dame added the 16th member of its 2017 recruiting class Friday when four-star defensive tackle Darnell Ewell committed to the Irish.

The 6-foot-4, 295-pound Ewell plays at Lake Taylor High School in Norfolk, Va. He’s the No. 4 player in Virginia and the No. 9 defensive tackle in the country according to 247Sports.com’s composite rankings.

The Irish were looking to add some beef to their defensive line in this class, and they apparently did so over some burgers.

Ewell visited Ohio State, Michigan and Notre Dame on consecutive days in June, and he told 247Sports: “Believe it or not, after the visits I went on, I went to White Castle. We talked it over and thought about it. That’s when I knew I found the best school for me and the one I really, really fit in at.”

Ewell’s commitment lifts the Irish recruiting class to fourth nationally in the composite team rankings behind Ohio State, Georgia and Alabama and ahead of Michigan.
