ShareFest of New Lenox, an annual festival of “sharing and caring,” is in need of volunteers to help with its projects Sept. 1 – 17 in New Lenox.
Hundreds of volunteers are needed to transport, pack, and sort donated items, set up displays and assist with home repair projects and other various tasks.
“Over the last 10 years, ShareFest has had amazing experiences as we put our faith into action and shared and cared for our neighbors in need,” said Gary Cheney, who organizes the annual event.
“We feed the hungry, clothe the naked, bring healing to the sick, bring jobs to those in need, protect our environment, visit the seniors, disabled, disadvantaged, and veterans and more,” he said.
For this event to work, ShareFest needs “well over 500 volunteers, and today we have three,” Cheney said, as he seeks those who are willing to “surrender some time, talent and maybe some treasure, join in and help.”
“I encourage any one to find a way to love their neighbor. Sometimes you just need a catalyst and ShareFest becomes that catalyst,” Cheney said.
ShareFest events include:
*Donations accepted Sept. 1-17 at St. Jude Church, 241 W. Second Street, New Lenox, Standard Bank, 456 Nelson Road, New Lenox and at the Spencer School campus, 1711 S. Spencer Road.
*”Recyclepalooza” on Sept. 10 at the Spencer School Campus, 1711 S. Spencer Road, New Lenox, a free recycling event that offers Will County residents a chance to dispose of unwanted household hazardous waste, electronics, Styrofoam, and scrap metal and more.
*Patriot Day ceremony Sept. 11 in the New Lenox Commons.
*Job Fair Sept. 15 at New Life Church.
*The main event at Spencer School Campus, 1711 S. Spencer Road, which includes a free exchange of books, toys and clothing. Collections also will be accepted for troops, pets and food shelters.
Volunteers can sign up to assist with any of these events, and for small home repair and clean up projects.
