A 21-year-old Batavia man has received a year of probation after he pleaded guilty to a June incident involving a knife.
David Charipar admitted he committed misdemeanor aggravated assault when he lunged twice at a relative with the knife that had a three-inch blade. A felony count of resisting a peace officer was dropped by prosecutors, although Charipar was ordered to write a letter of apology to the Batavia police officer he grabbed during his June 27 arrest.
Kane County Judge Linda Abrahamson ordered the knife be destroyed and for Charipar to undergo mental health treatment as part of his sentence in the case.
Court records show Charipar was cited by Batavia police for consumption of alcohol by a minor in 2012, and he faced a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge in 2013.
