Vegetable juices are healthy, right? Spirits, in moderation: also healthy. Put them together: super healthy!

At least that’s what I told myself while enjoying the Cetriolo Limetta, a vegged-out cocktail at Cucina Paradiso in Oak Park. Though, I almost didn’t order the drink at all. It’s listed on the menu as a mix of Hendrick’s gin, lime juice, simple syrup and — here’s the sticking point — cucumber puree. I have nothing against cucumbers, but the description made me think of gelatinous green soup.

Not at all, said general manager Jeremy Troyer. Instead, it’s an almost clear, lightly vegetal liquid, made by putting cucumbers in the food processor and double-straining the puree. It mixes perfectly with the Hendrick’s gin, which is infused with rose petals and cucumber, Troyer added.

Carrying cucumber’s sweetness and slight bitterness, Cetriolo Limetta also pairs well with food. A toast to your health — and a hefty plate of burrata.
