1) Celebrate Green City Market’s return to the great outdoors

It’s the most wonderful time of year, and we’re not talking about Christmas: Green City Market is back outdoors. Head to the south end of Lincoln Park this weekend to shop produce and more from local farmers. There will also be chef demos and even yoga classes. The outdoor market will be open for the season every Wednesday and Saturday through October. (Outposts in the West Loop and at Wrigley Field open at later dates.) 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in Lincoln Park between Clark Street and Stockton Drive, at Menomonee Street, www.greencitymarket.org.

2) Go to a beer fest at Soldier Field

Skip the tequila this weekend, and instead head out to the fifth annual Chicago Beer Classic, a party at Soldier Field featuring hundreds of beers to try. More than 30 breweries, including Vice District Brewing Co., Half Acre and Hopewell Brewing, are signed up to pour samples; choose either the early or late afternoon session. Tickets include 48 2-ounce samples and access to a pretzel-necklace station. $65. 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or 4-7:30 p.m. Saturday at Soldier Field, 1410 Museum Campus Drive, www.chicagobeerclassic.com

3) Dance at a silent disco; feast at a pig roast

West Loop spot Saint Lou’s Assembly celebrates its first birthday with two parties. On Saturday, head to the restaurant’s giant backyard for a silent disco party, where you can jam out — quietly — to DJ Danny Leroy while sipping drinks. The next day, a backyard pig roast offers you a plate of pig, three sides and a beer for only $6. Both events are free admission, though Saint Lou’s is accepting donations to The Cara Program, a local nonprofit working toward breaking the cycle of homelessness and poverty in the community. Silent disco 9 p.m. Saturday; pig roast 4 p.m. Sunday at Saint Lou’s Assembly, 664 W. Lake St., www.saintlouschicago.com

4) Do Brazilian brunch

Looking for something different from your standard brunch fare? Head down to Bridgeport’s Kimski, which continues its Sunday Vittles series with Brazilian-inspired specials. On the savory side, check out the feijoada, a black-bean stew featuring beef shank and linguica sausage, with sauteed collard greens and steamed rice ($12; $10 for a vegetarian version). Have a sweet tooth? The rabanadas, a Portuguese-style French toast, is stuffed with banana and milk jam, dipped in vanilla custard, fried and covered in cinnamon sugar, whipped cream and cashews ($7). Starts at noon Sunday at Kimski, 960 W. 31st St., 773-823-7336, www.kimskichicago.com.

5. Drink all the juleps

There’s plenty of horsing around to be done in Chicago on Kentucky Derby day, which is Saturday. RedEye has the intel on the best watch parties — fancy hats encouraged.
