New businesses in Naperville’s downtown are popping up, and a few favorites have moved to new locations.
Here’s a rundown of some of the changes:
* Starbucks, located at Jefferson Avenue and Main Street for 15 years, opened Friday in a larger space on Main Street that used to be part of the Eddie Bauer clothing store.
The new cafe includes a Reserve bar, which serves high-end coffee made with a variety of brewing methods. The new location opened Friday and is more than three times the size of the old store.
* Dark Horse Pastries has moved from its spot at 28 W. Chicago Ave. to new digs at 232 S. Washington St.
The bakery is in the same center as Amber Waves hair salon, Couture Vision and Vita Sana, just north of Potbelly. The new location offers more space for baking and special events, owner Terrell Cole said.
* Floyd’s 99 Barbershop at 20 E. Jefferson Ave. opened Friday. The barbershop serves men, women and children and offers cuts, colors and fades.
Floyd’s promotes itself as “not your grandfather’s barbershop” and features walls plastered with rock ‘n’ roll posters.
* Russell’s Dry Cleaners at 41 W. Jefferson Ave. is closed.
Owner Russell Breitwieser announced in April that he was retiring after 60 years in the business. The building will likely be demolished and rebuilt, said Nathan Tonnies, of Metro Commercial Real Estate, which is marketing the property.
“It’s an amazing corner, so a lot of people are really interested in it,” Tonnies said. “We’re looking for the right tenant for the mix of what’s currently downtown.”
* Savory Spice is planning to open a shop at 123 S. Washington St., next to vomFASS, in July, taking over the where Marbles: The Brain Store had been located.
Savory Spice stocks high-quality herbs, spices and seasonings and has locations in 15 states. There is one other Illinois location in Chicago’s Lincoln Square neighborhood. An opening date has not been announced.
* Water Street District’s SixtyFour-A Wine Bar and Blue Sushi Sake Grill opened in June.
The wine bar offers 64 self-serve wine stations and 64 local craft beers at 123 Water St. Blue Sushi is at the same address and the restaurant’s first Illinois location.
