Cameron Payne underwent surgery Wednesday to repair the fractured fifth metatarsal on his right foot, and the Bulls have officially placed a timeline of three to four months until his return.

In a release, the team said Payne will wear a splint for the next seven to 10 days and then a boot for six to eight weeks.

The team previously said Payne wore a boot this summer to protect the bone, which the guard has broken three times and had surgically repaired once. When that boot didn’t properly heal the injury, his second surgery was needed.

The Bulls acquired Payne last February as the centerpiece of a trade that sent Taj Gibson and Doug McDermott to the Thunder.
