A former nurse’s assistant at an Elmhurst senior living facility was sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty earlier this year to stealing thousands of dollars worth of items, including jewelry, according to prosecutors and court records.
Eugene Dorsey, 31, of the 4900 block of Grace Street in Chicago, was sentenced Tuesday by DuPage County Judge George Bakalis after pleading guilty in June to 11 counts of residential burglary.
Police say the thefts took place in November 2015 at the Park Place senior living facility.
Dorsey, who worked in the facility’s assisted-living area, entered at least 11 residences in the independent-living area and stole rings, necklaces and bracelets, among other items. He then pawned the items for cash, prosecutors said.
“Thinking only of himself, Mr. Dorsey stole thousands of dollars worth of valubles, many of which held signigicant sentimental value, from his victims,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a news release. “The fact that all of his victims are more than eighty years old and had placed a tremendous amount of trust in Mr. Dorsey, makes his crimes particulary appalling.”
