The Dodgers drew first blood in the National League Championship series with a 5-2 victory over the Cubs in Game 1 on Saturday night at Dodger Stadium.
The Cubs got on the board first on Albert Almora Jr.’s two-run home run in the top of the fourth.
The Dodgers evened the score with two in the bottom of the fifth on a run-scoring double by Yasiel Puig and a sacrifice fly from Charlie Culberson.
In the sixth, the Dodgers seized the lead on a Chris Taylor solo blast to make it 3-2. The Dodgers got two more in the seventh on a home run by Yasiel Puig and a run-scoring single by Justin Turner. The best-of-seven series will continue with Game 2 on Sunday night in Los Angeles.
At the plate
The Cubs managed four hits, including Almora Jr.’s homer. Kris Bryant, Willson Contreras and Jose Quintana also had hits.
Puig went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Dodgers.
On the mound
Jose Quintana started for the Cubs and lasted five innings, allowing two runs on two hits with two walks and four strikeouts. The left-hander made 89 pitches, 57 for strikes.
Hector Rondon started the sixth and gave up a lead-off home run to Taylor.
For the Dodgers, Clayton Kershaw started and yielded two runs on four hits with a walk and four strikeouts. He made 87 pitches, 57 for strikes.
Kenley Jansen recorded a four-out save.
