Naperville Sun readers have plenty of opinions when it comes to the news of the day. Here are some of the comments left on stories posted on our website — www.napersun.com — and on our Facebook page.

In response to the Boy Scouts announcing it will allow girls to join:

*This is so crazy!! We have Girl Scouts for the girls, so now boys can be girl scouts?? Sounds like the grown ups are the ones causing all the confusion with gender identity.

*So if girls can join what’s the point of having girl scouts and boy scouts… then it should just be called scouts if they are going to do that.

*I don’t understand it, but I hope it works out for everyone. The boys who want to be boy scouts and the girls who want to be boy scouts. If this is to continue, let the organization be called the scouts. Next it will be the women in the Basketball, Football and Baseball.

*There have been Den Mother’s for many years. I was one. If the boy scouts can let girls join as a boy scout, it seems fair to allow the woman to try out for the NBA, NFL and MBA. I don’t like it, but that’s where it is headed.

*The war on who we are continues… “The past was erased, the erasure was forgotten, the lie became the truth.” ? George Orwell, 1984

*No – boys need their own space and activities – as do girls

*Just scouts….this would make my life easier since I have several boys and girls.

*So the trend continues that women can have their own spaces to be with only other women, but men are never allowed to have exclusive men-only clubs, spaces, or activities. Are girl scouts letting boys in now?? The feminist movement: creating angry women and neutered men everywhere!

In response to Naperville scoring 42 out of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign report for LGBTQ equality, below the average state ranking of 69 and the average national ranking of 57:

*Why is this news? Don’t you have something better to do?

Naperville scored last on a ranking of Illinois towns reviewed by the Human Rights Campaign on issues of LGBTQ equality, a new report says.

*Their choice – glad my tax dollars aren’t going towards yet another salary when a need has not been identified. Still, this article is trying to condemn Naperville for doing something they didn’t need to be doing. If they had hate crime statistics to report, they would have. But they don’t. No one asked them for a liaison, so that’s why they don’t have one.

*Is this a joke?

*What nonsense! No hate crimes, no reported problems, just an atmosphere of inclusion and equality. So, there’s must be a problem, right?

*More idiocy from the Goofy Far Left.

*No one in Naperville cares if someone is gay or not. The fact other communities draw these lines between people is unfortunate. Naperville is beyond the divisiveness. I’m glad identity politics don’t dominate in Naperville like they do in these other communities.

*So, if I’m reading the article correctly (and it’s not completely clear), it looks like Naperville lost points in the study because it didn’t report hate crime statistics to the FBI in 2015 when it didn’t have any hate crimes to report. I’d have thought the lack of hate crimes would be a positive in the study.

*Gee, Naperville scores low even though they have strong human rights ordinances, no hate crime, and diverse schools and churches just because they don’t have a Queer Police Liason and a Commission to investigate “potential” discrimination when there is no evidence of discrimination. Sounds like a very well run and welcoming community without a lot of government waste and in-your-face LGBTQ pandering as we see in Chicago. If The LGBTQ community feels left out perhaps they should brush up on their social skills and become more engaged in the community.

*If The LGBTQ community feels left out perhaps they should brush up on their social skills and become more engaged in the community. And they don’t have a liason because NO ONE ASKED FOR ONE. Meaning things must be going quite well, unlike Aurora. This article is just another example of the leftist MSM identity politics gone amok. Let’s see, Naperville doesn’t seem to be messed up enough, they must be hiding something. Oh yeah, let’s condemn them for sins they DIDN’T COMMIT!

*Aurora having a liaison has nothing to do with there being problems in that area. It’s a reflection of the chief of police and it being an important issue to her. Their choice – glad my tax dollars aren’t going towards yet another salary when a need has not been identified. Still, this article is trying to condemn Naperville for doing something they didn’t need to be doing. If they had hate crime statistics to report, they would have. But they don’t. No one asked them for a liaison, so that’s why they don’t have one. I’d rather our Chief of Police focus on issues our community IS having – such as highschool teen suicides and the heroin problem.

In response to the Naperville City Council’s decision to hold off on approving a cell phone tower at Springbrook Golf Course until it’s determined if a study on its effect on migratory birds is needed:

*This always boils down to people that know what they’re talking about (proponents) vs. people that don’t (opponents).

*Verizon cell tower is completely unnecessary

*Glad to see wildlife taken into consideration

In response to Naperville District 203 enrollment numbers starting to increase after declines in recent years:

*There’s a slump?! Good grief naper elementary is over crowded..so much so last year they moved up the 5th graders to wjhs?!

*LOL, in the 80s we were getting new kids by the dozens all the time. One time in 4th grade we had 4 new students in one day. Which since they spread them out that meant that there were at least 15 kids starting 4th grade that day (in the middle of the week, so not like they all moved in on Saturday and started Monday even).
