In his op-ed, Mark Oppenheimer considered why the public hates the media. Alternately, perhaps the public has become indifferent to media that seems bent on spin tactics whether they favor the left or right. To rephrase the proposition, why has the media lost the public’s trust?

He further comments on the shortage of conservative viewpoints in the media, citing cultural shortcomings on the right for the shortages of conservatives in journalism schools and later in the media. Is Oppenheimer really blind to the virtual monopoly that liberals hold on the faculties of most journalism programs?

The media enjoys an undeniably critical position in our democracy, a position protected by the First Amendment. His screed does little to justify such protection.
